Holding his hand as his feet wobbled beneath the blades of his skates, I felt a huge sense of joy in sharing the wonder of ice skating with him. “All aboard!” the conductor cries. “Well, are you coming?”

“Where?” the little boy asks.

“Why to the North Pole, of course,” the conductor answers. “This is the Polar Express.”

Chris Van Allsburg’s book, The Polar Express is a classic holiday picture book about a little boy to take a train ride on Christmas Eve to the North Pole. There he meets Santa and receives the special gift of a silver bell. If your kid’s enjoy reading this story or watching the movie, you might consider bringing them to experience the magic of Christmas firsthand aboard a real Polar Express train.

The best kite festivals across the U.S.

There is something captivating about watching a kite swirl and soar through the wind currents high above us.  Children love the excitement of running with their brightly colored rhombus shaped flying machines, eager to watch it catch the right current to send it up, up, up towards the clouds.   If your family can’t get enough kite flying fun, then you should definitely spend a day at one of the many great kite festivals across the nation.
