The winter of 2011 sure packed a powerful punch. It seemed as though the country was walloped by one continuous snowstorm. Luckily, spring is here and trees are blossoming. The beauty of an orchard in bloom is something to celebrate and our country especially loves to do so when they are at their showy pink best. As a matter of fact, there are two dozen festivals across the country dedicated to celebrating the cherry blossom.

White House Easter Egg Roll 2011

Once upon a time, way back in 1878, there once was a group of children on Capitol Hill enjoying the Monday after Easter tradition of egg rolling. One precocious child in the bunch noticed President Rutherford B. Hayes, who was watching his own children participate in the fun, and decided to ask him the question that changed history.

“Say! Are you going to let us roll eggs in your yard?”

President Hayes did let the children of DC roll eggs on the White House lawn, and a tradition was born.  As the years have passed, the annual White House Easter Egg Roll event has evolved, but one thing remains constant: eggs will be rolled.
