The Fourth of July is certainly a summer highlight in the United States. If you’re still trying to decide where to go this year to watch the sky light up as we honor our magnificent country, we have some suggestions for you. 1. It’s only appropriate the first destination on our list is our nation’s capital, Washington DC. The National Mall Independence Day Celebration starts with all-day patriotic events that lead up to a grand finale fireworks display.
2. From the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades to the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, New York knows how to celebrate in a big way and it’s no different for this holiday. 4. Disney loving families may look forward to the nightly fireworks displays throughout the year, but on July Fourth all four Disney World parks step it up Independence style by offering their own celebrations complete with fireworks!
5. The St. Louis Riverfront in Missouri is a spectacular sight the evening of the Fourth during the annual festival filled with music and fun. The highlight is watching the fireworks illuminate the looming Gateway Arch.
6. New Orleans, Louisiana has always been known for its festive spirit and you can count on The Big Easy providing a big celebration on the Mississippi during the Go Fourth on the River celebration with the “Dueling Barges” fireworks.
7. Nashville, Tennessee has a hopping music scene so it’s should come as no surprise that the week-long festivities finish with a fabulous firework show choreographed to the Nashville Symphony.
8. Lake Tahoe may be a big winter destination but during the summer it’s just as fun and beautiful. In fact, the Fourth of July Lights on the Lake is a pretty big deal. It’s referred to as “largest synchronized fireworks display west of the Mississippi.”
9. At Navy Pier in Chicago firework appear in the evening sky all summer long, but on Independence Day Navy Pier turns red, while and blue and concludes with a festive fireworks display.
10. In the northwest, Seattle’s Family Fourth at Lake Union has been known to offer a splendid show. This year the show almost didn’t go on, but thanks to concerned locals enough sponsorships and contributions came through! If you’re in the Seattle area, head to Gas Works Park on the Fourth for a day of free activities, food and drink, and, naturally, fireworks!
