Five Fantastic New Year’s Eve Destinations
Got any plans for Thursday night yet? New Years Eve is the biggest party of the year, an event into which months of planning are often consumed, with champagne, grandiose excitement and most dreadfully, the biggest potential for a flop. Let not the prospect of a bad experience keep you at home and on the couch for the biggest party of the year. There’s plenty of good stuff going on this New Year’s Eve. We’ll show you a few hot places:

Las Vegas
The City of Sin simply couldn’t keep its name without hosting one of the largest New Years Eve bashes in the country, and without a doubt, the festivities are outstanding. The entire strip closes to traffic on the eve of 31, with revelers pouring into the street, admiring the skyline and madness of Las Vegas.
Gayot’s guide suggests that those with time should head to the Fremont Street Experience, “complete with confetti, a massive wine toast, concerts by big-name rockers and a five-block-long illuminated canopy 90-feet overhead.” Sounds like fun, right?
New York City
What would New Year’s Eve be without watching the ball drop in New York’s Times Square? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you’ll never forget, just remember that the crowds are thick, security is tight and that alcohol isn’t allowed on site. Make sure to pack extra layers as well, Times Square gets chilly late at night!

Orlando
Nothing says family fun like Orlando, Florida, home of Disney, Epcot, Seaworld and countless resorts and vacation properties. It’s a safe bet that any of the above parks are going to have outstanding New Year’s Eve parties, but it’s important to do your research before you head out into the foray. Travel Channel’s Kristin Luna put together a partial list of suggestions for region, while The Disney Blog always has a wide variety of interesting material.
Niagara Falls
VacationRentals.com’s list of top family-friendly New Years Eve destinations highlights the free festivities at Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls as an excellent New Years spot. In addition to the gorgeous view over the largest falls in North America, there are two fireworks shows at 9 p.m. and 12 a.m., meaning you can take the young ones home if midnight is too late.
The Caribbean
For those with a more “flexible” budget, the myriad islands in the Gulf Mexico offer a wealth of opportunities for a delightful New Year’s Eve. Whether this is luxuriating in an all-inclusive on St. Lucia or in a hostel in Kingston, the Caribbean Islands host a unique, cultural experience with warm weather and beaches to boot. It’s hard to go wrong. Take a look at About.com’s solid list of top Caribbean destinations for holiday travel for some serious inspiration.
Happy new year!
