Fun Easter Egg Hunts around the Country
My family tends to stay pretty close to home on Easter morning. We stagger out of bed, turn the house upside down, and then gorge ourselves on chocolate and remain in our pajamas well past noon.
If you’re feeling more ambitious this year, try one of these fun egg hunts around the country. Don’t forget to bring a basket!
White House Easter Egg Roll
Where: Washington, D.C.
When: Monday, April 25, 2011
Highlights: Hobnobbing with the President and First Lady.
Stay: Homewood Suites by Hilton Washington
The tradition of crowding onto the President’s South Lawn and rolling eggs across it dates back to 1878. This year’s theme is “Get Up and Go” and the event will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, storytelling and (naturally) Easter egg rolling. Tickets are by online lottery and that lottery is closed now. Mark your calendars for next year!
Easter at Biltmore
Where: Asheville, North Carolina
When: Sunday, April 24, 2011
Highlights: Seeing the largest privately-owned home in the United States.
Stay: Homewood Suites by Hilton – Ashville
Register in person two hours before one of the Biltmore Estate’s three Easter egg hunts (at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.) and then stay to enjoy children’s music and stories, magic shows, games and the compulsory photos of your child (occasionally crying with fright) on the lap of the Easter Bunny.
Eggstrordinary Egg Hunt
Where: Felton, California
When: Saturday, April 23 & Sunday April 24, 2011
Highlights: A train ride through the redwoods.
Stay: Homewood Suites Silicon Valley
On the Roaring Camp Eggspress train, you’ll hear the story of Peter Rabbit as the train chugs its way up Bear Mountain on its way to the Easter Egg patch. Once there, your kids can hunt for colorful chocolate candy eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny and receive prizes for specially marked eggs. There will be plenty of Easter crafts and games too.
Rabbit Romp
Where: Portland, Oregon
When: Saturday, April 23, 2011
Highlights: Candy eggs and a petting zoo too!
Stay: Homewood Suites by Hilton Vancouver – Portland
For those who don’t like to be held to a schedule, the Rabbit Romp at the Portland Zoo is a perfect compromise. Instead of one crowded, egg-hunting frenzy, this celebration of spring offers hunts every 20 minutes all day long for children 10 and under, plus games and a petting zoo.
