There is no shortage of things to do in the third largest city in Texas, but a lot of the celebrations have a decidedly adult flavor. Looking for some wholesome family fun in Dallas? Look no further. Here are five great things to do in Dallas with kids.

1. The Fort Worth Stockyards

Technically this is in Fort Worth, but the two cities are close enough to be one. This one-time livestock market is now a historical district full of Western-themed shops, restaurants, a Wild West show and a rodeo. There’s even a maze (if that’s your thing) and a museum (if it isn’t). If you’re ever going to buy a pair of cowboy boots, this is the place to do it.

2. The Dallas World Aquarium

A small, but delightful aquarium smack dab in the middle of downtown, the Dallas World Aquarium instantly transports you to Borneo, the Amazon and Madagascar. If your kids love wildlife, don’t leave this off your itinerary.

3. Log Cabin Village

What was life like in Texas during the pioneer days? You and your kids can find out at this living history museum in Fort Worth, where six restored cabins staffed by costumed historical interpreters educate visitors about the old days.

4. IMAX

If you don’t get good weather – and let’s face it, in February you might not – there’s nothing like a good IMAX film to pass a wet afternoon. Choose from one of three Dallas locations, then sit back, relax and enjoy a documentary or blockbuster film.

5. The Dallas Zoo

If you’re on a tight budget, take advantage of the special Penguin Days pricing at the award-winning Dallas Zoo. Admission is just $5 during the month of February, and kids 2 years old and under are always free.

If you’ve got older kids who are delving into American history in school, consider a visit to the Sixth Floor Museum. This museum, located in the same building as the Texas School Book Depository (where a sniper’s rifle was found after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy), tells the story of the life, legacy and assassination of our nation’s 35th president.
