Most Family-Friendly Water Parks
Don’t forget to pack the family’s swimsuits and sunscreen on the next family vacation. No matter where you go, there is a good chance there is a water park nearby. Here are some of the most fun family-friendly water parks to add to your itinerary.
The land of theme parks, Orlando, Florida, wouldn’t be complete without some refreshing water rides, and that’s where Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park comes in. One of two Walt Disney World Resort water parks, Typhoon appeals to the entire family from the little ones to the thrill seeking adults and everyone in between. Ketchakiddee Creek section is ideal for the young children while the older kids have a blast riding the Humunga Kowabaunga, catching some waves at the surf pool or coasting down the various water slides.

Kansas City, Kansas and the Texas towns of Galveston, South Padre Island and New Braunfels all have one thing in common: they each have a local Schlitterbahn Waterpark which all happen to be within driving distance of a Homewood Suites location. These family-owned water parks promise free parking and a day of fun for the entire family with water slides, wave pools, uphill water coasters and more.
Reno might be known for its gambling, but the family will have a great time at Wild Island Family Adventure Park just east of the city. While summertime is perfect for a day at the water park, when you’ve had your fill hit the onsite go-karts, bowling or the new indoor Pirate Cove miniature golf.
Everyone has heard of the Mall of American in Bloomington, Minnesota – but did you know there’s a Homewood Suites right across the street? There is also a Water Park of America nearby. After your shopping excursion, head over to this indoor water park to surf on Minnesota’s only Flow Rider Surf Simulator, ride the Lake Superior wave pool or scream with delight as you fly on the one-mile long, ten stories high family raft ride.
The mid-Atlantic’s largest family water park is found in Williamsburg, Virginia. Water Country USA has a 1950s and ’60s surf theme, but the 30 rides are as modern and exciting as they can get. There’s a spot for the little kiddies at Kid’s Kingdom while older kids can cruise down Hubba Hubba Highway, a 3.5-acre lazy river, or shriek with the entire family on Big Daddy Falls, a 670-foot colossal river-rafting adventure or the clan can race each other down the six-lane Nitro Racer.
