Fun Stuff to Add to the MP3 Player for a Long Trip

BY Lisa McElroy of suiteliving.com

Road trips are all the rage these days, but if your kids are anything like mine (here’s betting they are), they groan the second you tell them to load into the back seat.  But MP3 players are cheap and plentiful these days, and the options for kids are fantastic.  Need download ideas?  Try these.

Story time. My younger daughter, Abby, loves to listen to fables and stories by her favorite authors.  It’ll keep her entertained for hours! Check out storynory on iTunes for free fairytale downloads.

Podcasts. Curiostory.com has free podcasts especially for kids, as does Children’s Fun Storytime (on iTunes).  The Science Show for Kids is also a great bet.

Kids’ music. My favorite?  SteveSongs.com, where fun and crazy Steve sings catchy songs for adults and kids alike.  My older daughter, Zoe, was obsessed for years with the SugarBeats, a kids’ band that plays cute covers of classic favorites.  Dan Zanes and Raffi have downloads on iTunes, but kids may also get into old-timey good stuff like Peter, Paul, and Mommy – my kids go wild.

Musical theater. Who knew that little kids would rock out to Wicked and Annie?  Well, they do.  Download whole albums to their MP3 players, then take them to a local production of the show.
